Young People support keyworkers during COVID 19
15 April 2020
We are so proud of the young people at the Good Shepherd Centre, they are doing amazing things, during this difficult time.
Amid a Pandemic when people are struggling with social distancing and not able to see their families and friends, when the news and social media is dominated by how many people have contracted Coronavirus or sadly passed away from the disease. We have found the young people to be very resilient, they are showing such kindness to others.
A few of the young people had been reading about some of the positive stories that have come out of COVID 19. They wanted to research positive stories from around the world and share these with as many people as possible. With the support of their Media teacher they got to researching positive stories from around the world, they all agreed to use a postcard style as the design. They created 8 positive stories from different countries including, Italy, USA and of course Scotland.
These positive story postcards have been getting shared on the Good Shepherd Centre twitter page every day and have had the desired effect “Well done! Times like this positive news is very much welcomed!” was a comment from one follower with another commenting “This is wonderful, thanks to the young people, great idea”.
Another idea which we were especially proud of the young people for organising; was to provide key workers with goody bags, each bag contained a bottle of water, mars bar and a packet of crisps along with a handwritten note from the young people. The bags were delivered by one of our Chefs to staff at care homes including Erskine Care Home & Alisa Lodge Care Home and to the NHS staff at Royal Alexandra Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Inverclyde Royal Hospital. This was a little gesture to show them how much we appreciate the work they are doing.
The goody bags were very well received from the staff, the messages we received showed us that they really appreciated it, which made the young people very happy.
Huge thank you to @GSCBishopton for donating these fantastic parcels for our staff. Your #kindness is so appreciated. #COVIDkindness #KellyKindness
Amazing wee ‘pick me up’ food bags at IRH today from the Good Shepherd Centre. The chocolate in there was good, but the message was even better. #KindnessPandemic #FuellingTheFrontline
Lovely wee goody bag of snacks and a lovely wee message from @GSCBishopton thank you #NHS #NHSstaff
Would just like to say a massive thank you for the goody bag I received today at the RAH…it made a bad day, great! Many, many thanks, a very happy nurse.
The young people and staff have been very keen to get involved in everything they can do to support key workers, which also includes the staff that work at the Good Shepherd Centre They have been participating in the #clapforNHS #ClapForCarers every Thursday at 8pm. They also decorated their house windows to show support.
