TESCO Bags of Help Initiative

24 August 2017

We are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for a public vote in Tesco's Bags of Help Initiative.

Voting is open in the following Tesco stores throughout September and October. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.

Our project is to create a woodland walk within our grounds in Bishopton, Renfrewshire. We have extensive grounds comprising fields and woodland and it is our desire to engage the young people in learning for sustainability through the construction of a woodland walk. The young people would be central to the development of the walk from the planning stage to its construction. Fundamental to the project is making the walk open to local community groups. Bishopton has recently been the subject of large scale housing development and our woodland walk would be the ideal opportunity to involve our young people in forming a partnership with the local community, particularly local primary schools.
The walk would consist of several paths, through woodland, wet areas and surrounding countryside. Each path would be marked out and would provide information as to local flora and fauna at every season.

The walk will provide opportunities for young people in the following areas:
• John Muir Award
• Duke of Edinburgh's Award
• SQA Volunteering Award
• Learning for Sustainability

We would anticipate the young people would be able to involve themselves in this project in the following capacities:
• Planning
• Wildlife Research
• Guides for Community groups
• Construction

The project would also provide volunteering opportunities for members of the local community who may be interested in either the aims of the project or in providing assistance to our organisation.

Tom Laurie, Head of Education at Good Shepherd Centre said:

“We are delighted that we have been chosen by Tesco to take our project to the voting stage. We hope that customers will back us in our bid to realise a fantastic project for our young people”.
